Loby Hau, HKU
Loby, Hau Cheuk Yu is a PhD candidate at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He finished his bachelor’s degree in Ecology and Biodiversity at HKU in 2016 and has been consistently involved in studies and conservation work related to live reef food fish and dried seafood trade in Hong Kong.
Currently he is conducting a study on evaluating the effectiveness of CITES on regulating the international trade in Humphead Wrasse, an endangered reef fish species threatened by high demands in the live reef food fish market. Through the study he also aims to develop a novel solution to improve monitoring and enforcement on the Humphead Wrasse trade in Hong Kong using an individual photo recognition technique based on the distinctive facial markings of the species.
